Alien: Resurrection (1998)***.

***
Six year's after "Alien 3", David Fincher, 1992, French director Jean-Pierre Jeunet   made "Alien: Resurrection", (1998). This time Ellen Ripley returns to do battle with new aliens. She meets Call, (Winona Ryder), Heathers, 1988, Bram Stoker's Dracula, 1992, Reality Bites, 1994, who is a clone, who helps Ellen Ripley. Unlike the third movie, the gloominess is gone. The movie is similar to the first movie; it is bolder, and violent. The rest of the cast include Ron Pearlman, The City of lost children, 1995, the Hell-boy series, Season of the Witch as Johner; Gary Dourdan, (as Christie); Michael Wincott, (as Elgyn); and Dan Hedaya, (as General Perez)-who wants to get rid of the alien threat.

Written by Josh Whedon, who was unknown twenty years' ago, the fusion of science fiction, horror, and action, (and the era of human cloning), meant that Ripley could return. In the end, "Alien: Resurrection", is a good science fiction sequel that is sadly overlooked.

Alien 3 (1992)***.

***
David Fincher's 1992 debut film "Alien 3", is an underrated sequel to Ridley Scott's "Alien", (1979); and James Cameron's "Aliens", (1986). Set on a planet prison called Fiorina 161, Ripley, (Sigourney Weaver), who is Co-Producer, struggles to survive the deadly aliens. In the prison, there's Dillon, (Charles S.  Dutton); Golic, (Paul McGann); Bishop II, (Lance Hendriksen); Clemens, (Charles Dance); Andrews, (Brian Glover); and David, (Pete Postlethwaite).

The darkness and gloom of the movie creates an air of tension of the cold, unfeeling, characters as they battle the aliens. Written by Vincent Ward, David Glier, Walter Hill, and Larry Ferguson, the movie creates an air of doom that causes the viewer to disengage from the movie. Weaver and Hendriksen are great, while Dutton, Dance, and the Postletwaite, do their best acting their parts. The writing, music, cinematography, and special effects, (especially of the aliens, and the set design), still thrills the viewer. In all, "Alien 3" is a solid debut by David Fincher, who went on to direct "Seven", 1995; "Zodiac", 2007; and "The Social Network", (2010).

Cameron's movie was cut by 17 minutes for the cinema version, so some of the movie doesn't make sense, (mainly how Newt gets on the ship); years later on television, her family is attacked by the aliens, and is a stowaway. The rest of the movie has 'added on' scenes that creates a stronger plot line, that completes "Aliens", which runs at 137 minutes, longer than the first movie was. The battle scenes with Ripley and the Queen Alien, is scary. She gets help in modern, space warfare, by Corporal Hicks. When she sees some of the new friends are killed, she blames Burke for their deaths. Burke has his own agenda. Reiser, who is known for his comedy television shows like 'Mad about you', with Helen Hunt, flees the ship, much to Ripley's anger. And Bishop turns out to be a robot, like Ian Holm's character in the first film, as he attempts to sabotage everything.

"Aliens", is a pre-CGI effects science fiction action movie that succeeds in the growing tension of the scenes. The writing, directing, and production from Gale Ann Hurd, and the acting, cinematography, music, and special effects, as well as music, creates a classic movie that succeeds as a sequel which is on par with the original movie.

Aliens (1986)****.

When writer/director James Cameron, "Piranha II: The Spawning", 1981; "The Terminator", 1984, made "Aliens", the first sequel to Ridley Scott's "Alien", (1979), he created a cult classic that is on par with the original movie. After spending 57 years in Outer Space, Ellen Ripley, (Sigourney Weaver), is found by a ship in Outer Space that's full of soldiers. When she tells everyone about her encounter with an alien, there's a fight for survival when more aliens attack them.

The Queen Alien is more scarier than the 'chest-burster' alien from Scott's original "Alien" movie from 1979, thanks to Stan Winston.

Alien (1979)-Part 3

***
Panic sets in.
Ripley is scared when her crew are killed off by the alien, (Bolaji Badejo). The paranoia, and dark set-pieces, acting, writing, cinematography, music, and production, is top-notch. Ripley is a strong, no-nonsense woman in the late 1970's. She decides to get rid of the alien. And, as she does so, she strikes back at the intruder. When she finds out that Ash is a robot, she finds out that there are other interests in the eggs. And that Kane shouldn't have been sent back on board The Nostromo, for quarantine and security reasons.
In the end, Ripley expels the huge alien out of the glass windows. And, as she drifts off to sleep, the nightmare is over...for now.

Alien (1979)-Part 2

***
The horror of "Alien", is the design by G R Giger. The eggs are like the pods from "Invasion of the Body Snatchers", (Phillip Kaufman, 1978, remake); the intermittent music score by Jerry Goldsmith; the whole nightmare that the characters face; and the movie's infamous tag line: "In space no one can hear you scream".
***

During the famous "Dinner scene", Kane hasn't got the 'face-hugger' on his face. He seems well; he can smile at the crew; he sits down on his seat. Suddenly, as he attempts to eat, he screams, and lies down in the middle of the huge table and chairs. Then, to everyone's shock, a little alien bursts out of his chest, then scurries away into the dark recesses of the ship itself. The crew then know that Kane was the victim of the alien, and the terror resumes.

Alien (1979)****.

In 1979, Dan O'Bannon, Ronald Shusett, and director Ridley Scott, made a science fiction cult classic called "Alien". It told the story of a space ship called The Nostromo. When the crew hear a signal from a distant planet thanks to Mother, (Helen Horton), their lives are placed in grave danger. The crew are: Ellen Ripley, (a young Sigourney Weaver); Dallas, (Tom Skerritt); Lambert, (Veronica Cartwright); Brett, (Harry Dean Stanton); Kane, (John Hurt); Ash, (Ian Holm); and Parker, (Yaphet Kotto), and African-American. As Kane, and some of the crew investigate a planet where the signal was, they find a lot of space eggs. When Kane gets too close to one of them, it splits open, and a face hugger wraps around his face. In the end, Kane is taken back to The Nostromo, where he's attended in the Sick Bay.
